A semi-improvised work in collaboration with Persian Tanbur musician Sam Fathi. Tanbur’s are venerated as sacred musical instruments and are capable of producing trance like states in listeners. The work could be considered to have been performed in a liminal space as the instrument induced an altered state of consciousness in both performers and the audience. It was the first time I experienced 'Tarab', the collective state of ecstasy or trance that occurs as a result of the energetic exchange that took place between myself, the musician and audience during the performance.
