A collaboration/exchange with artist Jaimie Henthorn in Denver, USA exploring a city’s defining typologies and the body’s interaction with them. In Amman, the staircases connecting the hills to the valleys were highlighted as ‘typical’ of the city and thus a typology. one staircase in the neighbourhood of Weibdeh was chosen as the intervention site. The choreography was conceived through a process of giving and receiving direction from which the idea of descending the staircase with the head in continuous contact came about. It just so happened that I was 7 months pregnant with my son at the time which meant that in addition to keeping my head on the ground at all times I had a protruding stomach with a baby inside it to consider during the descent. The intervention was recorded on video.
